Last week we had two days of great social importance to measure the union thermometer: Occupational Safety and Health Day and May 1st. Once again we have been able to confirm the reality experienced throughout the year: the trade union division. On 28 April, trade unions mobilized in their banners and separate locations to denounce the lack of job security and the use of mutual societies. The same happened on May 1st, where, with the exception of the statesalist unions, the other unions held demonstrations with different and similar demands. The spectacle was truly regrettable, right at this time when we are affected by unemployment and the crisis, and the employers of capitalism are more united than ever. They are the ones that condition the action of government and administration.
If the distribution is maintained on a daily basis, it is of no use if it appears “united” for a couple of days. However, the serious socio-economic situation of Euskal Herria and the lack of sovereignty are noteworthy and worrying. The unions and left-wing social organizations, especially the nationalists, are still in the mud, without being able to agree on joint strategies or actions. Is it not causing boredom in the workers and the citizens? Are the workers not mobilised less, precisely when the capitalist attack is greater than ever? Will they only be content with mobilising union partners and representatives? And what about most of the workers, unemployed, pensioners and young people without trade unions - 55% unemployed -? Each union should make a greater effort to seek consensus and make joint mobilizations in the face of capitalist attack.
