The debate on waste has spread throughout the Basque Country. It is logical: 90% of all that human beings produce is waste and we have been left without room to abandon it.

As in Gipuzkoa, the first Puerta a Puerta has also been organized in Navarre, in the region of Sakana, in reaction to incineration attempts, when the experience of selective collection carried out 30 years ago in the region of Pamplona was rather forgotten. The Sakandarras have adapted generalised recycling to the local language, giving particular importance to Community composting. They have managed to export various components – casets.

In Iparralde, there has been less stir among the opponents of the scheme organized by the Unión Bil and Garbi around the TMB of Canopia in Baiona. But the shattering of the TMB, without selective collection of citizens, has spread throughout France and complaints from some people in Baiona, Hazparne and Sarrikota in Zuberoa are resumed.

In Bizkaia, recently Ekologistak Martxan brought to light the old rags of the incinerator Zabalgarbi. They have learned that Zabalgarbi has energy efficiency at stake, that the profitability is due to public subsidies, that it has had ups and downs in pollution control and that, to the surprise of many, slags and calcined ashes spread in the landfills of Bizkaia. In addition, steps have been taken to change the system in the region of Lea-Artibai.
