The last music I wrote on these pages corresponded to a collection of references and on this occasion I was also struck by another type of music. In Zarautz, the City Hall and several neighbors wanted to pay tribute to the author of the songs that make up the soundtrack of our childhood (and that of its descendants). The collection has been coordinated by veteran musician and sound technician Mikel Kazalis and almost all the groups that have participated in it have been recorded in their Fidelenea study. In the process, the editorial Elkar has joined them and together they have published a beautiful work.
I was led by the Zuberoan dezagun collection, which we built the new ikastola that Esan Ozenki launched years ago to support the ikastola project in the village of Sohüta. I have similarities with both projects. First, because the groups that have participated in the album are very significant; in both cases the result is very open and rich; and finally, because they are songs that have a lot to do with the children’s audience and during the creative process the musicians have been doubting what their recipient will be.
Eñaut Elorrieta has been in charge of opening the disc with the Solo-free part. With the help of keyboards and programming, it has added its fragile environment from both the electronic and the orchestral. Far from sophistication, Petti, as a player, has updated Ran Roberran. The Split 77 group – by Zea Mays – together with Aiora Renteria has brought the song Txiki, txiki, txikia, to electronic and modern coordinates, without losing the sweetness, on the contrary, multiplied. Mursego has also made a proper selection and this one-woman-band has presented us to Mac Mikel with intrigue, adventures and sound effects. Perhaps the Kazalis Breakdown will not frighten children with the song Kalabera, which this time has broken its own industrial rock a little. Lou Topet has swollen with country wind and folk when he was a Bird; and has dared to give a Cuban and Latino touch to Audience Serore. Makala Jazz Funk Band has made Jon Braun dance almost without singing and with a lot of groove. And finally, Egaña himself, Pirritx, Porrotx eta Maritomots and other friends have sung the emotive piece written by Andoni Egaña to ‘Manolo’ Urbieta.
