Researchers at US University Carnegie Mellon and Disney Research have achieved a response time of 2.5 milliseconds for video game driving tools.
The Nintendo Wiimote has a response time of between 50 and 80 milliseconds, while the Microsoft Kinect has a response time of 60. The researchers mentioned above have developed a system called Lumitrack which, as has already been said, has managed to reduce the response time by 30 times. As a result, they expect a new era to start in the gestural games.
The lumitrack system is based on the barcode that is projected on the player's body to detect movements. The barcode system is divided into 1,576 parts, each consisting of 25 bars. The change in them is what the computer detects so quickly. The projection of the barcodes takes place in two dimensions, but since the change of distance between the place where the bars are and the receivers takes place in real time, the system works in three dimensions.
