Strategies to leave speakers silent
The thousand page book written by Dabid Anaute is called Euskararen kate hautsia. The work has been published by the Euskal Memoria Foundation, a compilation of the history of oppression suffered by the Basque Country for centuries. It's one of those that's kept on the shelf.
Throughout history, different means of repression have been used to dominate the Basque country, to get the speakers to make a corner of the language, so that the Euskaldunes leave the Euskaldunes mute. The book shows crushes of different colors, of harsh punishment, of threat, and not always so aggressive and obvious, that have often worn down.
Anaute, in his great collection work, not only told the testimonies of oppression and its strategies, but also how citizens have faced them. The documentary has collected the testimonies of several Basques who suffered the repression, as well as interviews with experts in the field.
The Euskal Memoria Foundation has published this work, it is no coincidence, so that it does not repeat or forget what happened: Memory of linguistic oppression.
