The judge last week pleaded guilty to the defeat of Epsilon in Tarragona as "guilty to murder." The principal manager, Joan Villadeprat, is the only administrator who has become responsible for the situation. A court in Vitoria-Gasteiz has condemned the Catalan entrepreneur to pay EUR 900,000 to those affected by debts and for three years he will not be able to manage foreign assets or carry out tasks of representing others. The company wanted to compete in Formula 1 and received financial aid from the Government of Spain and Vitoria under the chairmanship of Ibarretxe and the PNV. Several savings banks gave it credit over EUR 37 million. These days we have known that the cooperative Fagor Appliances received millions of euros during the government of López and Urkullu, when the debt exceeded EUR 800 million. They are not the only companies that have received aid and have failed. The billions of euros that have been “hidden” in the city, Jubernor, etc. They're just the tip of the public money iceberg. Is there no political responsibility?
All this calls into question the aid granted by the institutions to certain enterprises and projects. How could Ibarretxe consider Epsilon as a “national project” in the strategic plan if the market did not accept it? How do we understand the fall of the Hiriko project subsidized and promoted by public institutions? How could I explain that Fagor, who had a debt without progress, had just obtained public aid of EUR million? Public money should be monitored more closely, the projects presented should be seen more and the guarantee they have to go ahead. On the other hand, transparency in the presentation of aid must be greater. Public money does not belong to the government party and is given to friends. It serves citizens to create jobs, maintain them and improve social services.
