What is the social capital in the Basque Country? But what is that Social Capital?
Alavesa Leire López-Gil took advantage of the concept of Social Capital of Robert Putnam in her postgraduate work in Linguistic Planning HIZNET. The very title of the research gives us a clear idea of the author's intention: The complementarity between the public institutions of Vitoria-Gasteiz and the popular initiative in the Basque world. This possible complementarity is precisely one of the points on which we are debating today in the Basque universe.
Why has Leire López-Gil chosen this concept? What he has said is that for there to be a social change around the Basque Country, on the one hand, “a strong network of relations” and, on the other, “a high degree of trust”, both are necessary to achieve it.
What are the networks of relations and mutual trust in the Basque country? They are the best for a long time, but with a great need for improvement.
The value of the word. Giving the word has served for centuries in Basque society. Also in Spanish, “the word of the Basque” has a clear and solid meaning (being?) It's abroad. This value of the word is built on mutual trust.
Taking into account current statistics and measuring the confidence of the CAPV population in our peers, we locate the highest value (7 points out of 10) in family and friends networks, and the lowest (4.5) in institutions (EUSTAT, 2013:Social Capital Survey). The institutions must therefore reflect. And also of the attitude of the citizens towards the instituciones.Sin embargo, there is
a difference according to the language in which this survey was answered: 38% of the respondents in Euskera declare a “high level of trust” in general, compared to 26% of those who have answered in Spanish. Is it still the most valuable word among the Basques?
Also in Basque. I think so. Unlike elsewhere, in our case the “word” remains an important guarantee. In professional environments, for example, literary commitments greatly facilitate the complexity of the functioning and consequently also reduce costs. In its smallness, Euskalgintza is as necessary as the accumulation of forces to facilitate relations between agents. Otherwise, there is libre.AsI did
things, and thinking about the Basque cultural activity in Gasteiz, here is what López-Gil wrote, which puts an end to his work: "Therefore, from the social capital proposed by Putnam, I think that (...) a solid and compact network can be achieved. That is true, without losing sight of the roles, duties and personality of each group. After all, a heterogeneous movement must be made, which is compatible, of course.” That is the case!

I don't want my daughter disguising herself as a Gypsy in the caldereros. I don’t want Gypsy children at my daughter’s school to dress up as Gypsies in caldereros. Because being a gypsy is not a disguise. Because being a gypsy is not a party that takes place once a year, with... [+]

This weekend I've been thinking about the word 'aesthetic' in relation to a phrase said by a friend: “This work is aesthetic.” I have studied the etymology of the word aesthetic, it seems that its meaning was originally perceived through the senses, and it was later associated... [+]
