24. Lekeitio Street Theatre International Festival

It may seem that I am going to say what is usually said on those occasions and yet I will throw it out, because it is closer to reality than to the topic: The Lekeitio International Street Theatre Festival is a unique festival, undoubtedly unique, compared to the other initiatives of this level. Because it does not base its contribution on proposals such as clown, circus, juggling, but the avant-garde is the essence of its offer, and independent theater, contemporary street art, all new creation. They've been there for 25 years. There's no goat cough here at midnight.

The festival of Lekeitio was the first to break the street culture, and it has given a new turn of century, a quarter century in which the international character was accentuated, the audience that was approaching became more and more cultured, gathering the celestial seas. This year, it will have, among other things, a pier, a new conquered space.

The Ship of the Fools or Zoroen Itsasontziak, managed by the Azart cultural association, are actors of different nationalities, will temporarily abandon the waters of Pasaia and will dock in Lekeitio. They come to represent the eccentric Monsieur Jourdain, a work based on the work of Molière Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme, M. Written by Russian Bulgarian. It could be said that it is practically a premiere, as so far they have not had many occasions to go into the scene. According to the participants, the work is a tribute to all the languages of the world. The crew going from port to port will mix in the show expressions, phrases and songs taken from different languages (including Catalan, Italian and Dutch). On the other hand, it is worth noting that the plain people speak Basque in the work, and the bourgeois in Spanish.

With the high tide, the Crazy Boat will offer three features in Lekeitio: Friday (July 12) at 19:00, Saturday at 19:30 and Sunday at 20:00. Viewers must follow the program from the pier, from the stands that will be installed in front of the cofrady. The amount will be limited and each one will pay an entry based on your weight: 17 cents a kilo. Keep the fattest ones calm, as no more than 77 kilos will be taken into account. In other words, no one will have to pay more than EUR 13. It will be the only show to
pagar.No pleased with the horizontal space, the Catalan group Sencuentra in Lekeitio and will also seek to conquer the vertical, as it will hang from the village bell and offer a dance show. Like years ago, in this edition the public will again be muzzled, turning the Gothic style of the church into the support of contemporary art.

Stock Umoreak, the newly created international school of performing and audiovisual arts, will present the Lekeitio Off project. Within fifteen days you will be able to see seven short humor on the streets of the city (the first session has already taken place on 30 June). Most of the works are incomplete, and the audience’s reaction to the festival will accompany them.
