Collective 2 d’Abril recalls and denounces that on April 2, 1700, King Louis XIV, prohibited the use of Catalan in the territories that the Spanish monarchy granted to France. The decree regulating this ban has not been repealed under any circumstances and is therefore still in force. On this day, the organization wanted to denounce the situation of Catalan and the language policy of the French Government.
The Potonejada of 13 April was celebrated under the motto Un clam d’amor per la lengua catalana. Following the motto, the offerings or kisses were converted by the citizens into a cry of love towards Catalan. This is what they say in the video they have used to promote this action in favor of the Catalan official:
“Com uns declare war, declare love for filth, for terra, for gent. Ajuntem les mans, preparem els llavis, esmolem les llengues. Volem pas més callar, volem pas més que ens callin… Potonejada per la llengua catalana”. Let us put our hands together, prepare our lips, sharpen our languages – our languages. We do not want to be silent. We don't want to be shut down. The kiss for Catalan!)
Throughout the day the festival toured the plazas and streets of Perpinyá. The attendees of the capital of Northern Catalonia, besides collecting the photos and signing the manifesto Una llengua, un dret, una llei, also had the opportunity to enjoy musical performances, sardinies and other activities.
In the most multitudinous Potojenada so far, some 1,500 people had gathered. But by claiming the language of this year, last year, 31 March and Perpinyà himself wanted to overcome the mark of 7,000 people gathered in the lipdub for independence. As we read in El Punt Avui and according to the information provided by the organization, more than eight thousand people have gathered and more than five thousand have taken the photo and signed the manifesto in favour of Catalan. The organizers are pleased to be able to count on the support of Miguel Strogoff. A POT OF LOVE IN BASQUE for them!
The Catalan linguist Carme Junyent died last September. We have followed closely what he said about language policy here, hoping that we will ever dare to implement some of his proposals. I was behaving without burnings. Many examples have been gathered in this journal: ARGIA... [+]
