The Anger group of Arrasate-Mondragon – sorry, Musakolako – was created a decade and a half ago by 15-year-olds fascinated by Brutal Melody, Anesthesia and Ktulu, among others. They wanted to make hard, direct music that drank from metal and hardcore. Until they learned to play the instruments, they wrote the songs and rehearsed under the tanatorium, when they were left, they began to do direct. The need to claim, denounce and express reference groups … The list was very long and the initial result was gross, unfiltered. In the year 2000, they published the model of sowing the dry tree; and two years later, as part of the Gara initiative to give impetus to the new musical groups, they published the album Segur Itzala.
As a result of other needs, the rhythm of the group slowed down, but Anger has always shown an identity of his own and those around him do not care about them; let’s not say Arrasate’s punk atmosphere. It's the rocker. So, The Heart of the Sapo, Bap! At The Drive In, Dut and Bonny M, among others, occupied more and more space in their DNA. On the album Nudu made a relentless and truthful (auto) criticism directed to the youth of Mondragon and Euskal Herria. From there, the road was chosen, as in the task they got it right: working in depth the (auto)human and social manipulation, relying on the firmness of metal, on round melodies and on the rich game of intensities and environments that allows post-hardcore. Seductions along that road was an even more compact, stronger and more elaborate album.
And now they come to teach the Third Skin. There are those who say that “the group that betrayed the metal has chosen the style logo of Van Halen and Pink Floyd”, but beyond the jokes we find ourselves before another conceptual album of the quartet. Others describe the ‘apparent’ scenario in which we operate under the established script, where individuals are no longer individuals. And as they dress in music, in the studio of Portugal, Txiki have experienced, explored and pampered more than ever the result, once again, with the help of Josema Linazisoro. The strength of the metal is still in the riffs – while Beñato lives – as well as many of the post-hardcore expressions, but the half-tempo and flirty environments with the emo continue to prevail, and there are more playful pieces – Anger’s brand – and more crazy – At The Drive In Musakola – and they have been able to give each song a more intense rhythm. Basically, they know how to channel perfectly the anger, the desire for communication, the way of observing and the wisdom that the years have given us!
