The Hekimen Association brings together over 50 media outlets working exclusively in Basque. It has a number of objectives, including the importance of influencing grant policies. In recent months, the association has held meetings with representatives of the political parties in the Basque Parliament and the issue of the budgets of the Basque Government has been the theme central.El project of budgets of the Basque Autonomous Community provides for
2013 EUR 4,875,000 for the media in Basque, the same amount as last year. The media working in Euskera have consistently claimed for years that public institutions have not in practice considered these media as strategic. In this regard, Hekimen has welcomed the efforts of the Basque Government to recognize the importance and strategic character of the Basque media. In recent years, however, there has been a 15% decrease in revenue for the Basque media and a decrease in advertising is expected. Hekimen is clear that “amid continued cuts, last year’s figure is not enough to ensure the future of the sector.”
