The Hekimen Association brings together over 50 media outlets working exclusively in Basque. It has a number of objectives, including the importance of influencing grant policies. 2013 EUR 4,875,000 for the media in Basque, the same amount as last year. The media working in Euskera have consistently claimed for years that public institutions have not in practice considered these media as strategic. In this regard, Hekimen has welcomed the efforts of the Basque Government to recognize the importance and strategic character of the Basque media. In recent years, however, there has been a 15% decrease in revenue for the Basque media and a decrease in advertising is expected. Hekimen is clear that “amid continued cuts, last year’s figure is not enough to ensure the future of the sector.”
