“Leo was small, very small, but he had made great promises. On the day of his proclamation as king, they celebrated a great feast, inviting all the animals.” With these words, and with the image of a warm and sympathetic lion, this work begins by Mario Ramos, a creator who died at the end of 2012. Leo will become king and will gradually make use of an increasing force against the citizens and will begin to exercise the dictatorship. “The worse, the bigger it felt. Standing on the throne, he changed the laws according to the mood of the day. The animals started to get frightened.” And so, one day of those grumpy, he banned the birds from flying, they had to break their wings nothing else nacer.El little
kili was a little handsome that the mother had lovingly raised and without breaking the wings. And little Kili, one day, took off the crown of the mighty Leo, the king's office, and put the crown on the pig's head. The pig, then, sent to wash once a year and the little Kili took off the crown and put it on the donkey, who then banned reading, writing and thinking, and the little Kili took off the crown…
Mario Ramos has offered us a living and highly recommended history against dictatorship and abuse. Simply, also for children to understand, and with ingenious outings (playing with the ideas that each has through the different animals), this book that raises a very serious issue in itself can have some humor. The
author is known to Basque readers and it may be noteworthy that in this book he has not used so much color, that he has not played with the landscapes, with the things around him. Instead, it makes us see on the animal pages and crown - yellow, golden, pronounced -. That is, by giving more strength to the message, it offers flatter, simpler images. Like the text, the image changes, but it is also the evolution of the previous one. More
than a demand for freedom, the book is a claim against violence and abuse of power. Even though the small kili is no more than a chick, it is he who will liberate the country, which puts an end to the dictatorship of Leo and closes the way for other new dictatorships from the very beginning. And all of this is written and illustrated so that children understand and share it with children. And that's one of the great values of this book, dealing with very serious issues, which give a lot to talk about, in a very simple way; telling dictatorship and freedom so that children also understand it, and in a loving way.
