Ana Obregon in our worldview
It has happened to me several times: an attractive, agreeable idea, that I would have done with ease and joy, but that, whatever the reason, I am not satisfied and find it difficult to accept it. He wants to believe, but an insolent voice inside tells him: “That’s not the case, the idea has holes too large...”
Example? For example, that each language gives a way of seeing the world, or rather, that language itself conditions thought in such a way that the structure and quality of each particular language conditions and configures the way of thinking of its owner.
The idea itself seems attractive to me. And I think I'm not particularly interested in it being true or false. From the point of view of nationalism or the defence of minority languages, that is what has been done, and I am moving in those spaces, but I do not think that is a total argument, nor that it is essential. And if I find it hard to believe it, it's because it leaves me with a lot of unanswered questions, among other things. I would like someone to convince me of the value of the idea.
Let us suppose, however, that things are like this. Well, recently I had another argument to question the idea: a few months ago two women from Leitza, the older women unlike me, but the Basques like me, and therefore, those who see the world in the way the Basque supposedly left them, went to Pamplona to see and listen to Ana Obregon. Ah! I would hardly find clearer examples than those that move further away from my way of seeing the world.
I share the language with them, because we are all three Basques. And starting to share, also Castilian, because we're Castellanoparlantes. But really, I'm convinced that your worldview, your way of understanding the world, has to be very different. Despite the interest in the hopeful characters, millions of people will be in the world, closer than the two Basques that I have next to me when it comes to looking at life and understanding the world. The Basque Country offers me a broad, rich, pleasant and pleasant territory, which I share with the rest of the Basques, but obviously the glasses of looking at the world also have to have other ingredients, or many more.
