In this regard, they stressed that, despite the crisis, opportunities for plans must continue to be created. The main objective of the days has been the exchange of experiences and mutual knowledge, since companies, despite being different, live similar processes. Emun wants to create a community where people who work in the development of Basque plans are in different spaces.
“For some companies the challenge is to believe in themselves and for those who have believed it, to achieve it,” said one of the protagonists of the video opening the day. Once the Euskera plan has been started, the participants have highlighted that the translations, the labels in Euskera... can be seen quite easily. Later, there will be attempts to make assemblies in Euskera, that the formal use goes beyond the documentation made of simple translation, that influences the relations between the workers... and that the challenge is to achieve what is believed.
The participants have been distributed in four workshops to publicize the way in the companies and to exchange experiences.
The experience of Jabi Santos is a sign of the influence that the customs of the people around us have on us. IkasTari tells about her experience in a workshop on roads from knowledge to use. Previously I wanted to learn Euskera, but in his work – in the Mondragon cooperative, he works in the company Otalora de Aretxabaleta – feeling in need of Euskera prompted him to take the Euskaltegi step. Individual motivation, the influence of the group and the direction of the organization influence the knowledge of the Basque country. You have listened to the experiences in these three areas.
It has been concluded that it is important to prepare vasco-speakers for bilingual conversations and measure what those who do not know or who think they know little know know; “great surprises can be taken.” It will be necessary for the Euskaldunzaharras to have the habit of using the Euskera and to have patience with the Euskaldunberris. Management should also have minimum knowledge and involvement in the creation of training plans for the promotion of knowledge and special Basque classes.
Jabi Santos had the motivation to learn Basque and speak in Basque, but how can this desire be awakened? This topic has been worked on in the workshop on motivation strength. The Basque companies' committees carry out campaigns, newsletters, trips... to create awareness. In the Eika cooperative of Markina-Xemein in Bizkaia, for example, the Basque Day was celebrated in June. It is a holiday, with exits, meals, games... In recent years, workers from other cooperatives in the region have also joined. These kinds of events sometimes go better than other times.
The Euskera Commission organizes a series of events, in which it is told that it is not always easy to communicate them. In the newsletters, for example, in addition to the news from the Basque commissions, interviews and news from the departments are written, and many workers can participate. Some of them read them at ease, and they've approached the Euskera commission through the newsletter. Others don't pay much attention to them. In addition to the newsletter, they also use the Internet for communication. Consideration has also been given to the need to have its own space in coordination meetings; “The communication of the Basque Commission must be combined with the communication of other issues. The Basque country must be a transversal line”.
The TELP (Workshop d'espai linístic personal) courses have also been carried out in the motivation workshops. These courses work on self-esteem with language, which has been missed in the workshop on the use of Ari and Ibili: “Some feel that they cannot communicate their work accounts in Basque for the informal sector.”
In the workshop, it was stressed that we must ensure that those who know Euskera are used more among them. An Osakidetza worker, for example, is clear that if the workers had the habit of speaking in Basque among themselves it would be easier to offer the service in Basque. In the formal areas, they point out that in the writing there are often only translations performed by the Basque service. Some have agreed that the Basque Country is getting a presence that it did not have before, while others have seen that this is far away.
Tree of roots and branches
A structure and some protagonists are necessary for companies and organizations to function in Basque: Basque commissions, technicians, management, local leaders... The work of all of them has been analyzed from Sustraieta to the branches: in the workshop of institutionalization of the plan in the company. You have listened to the testimonies of each section of the structure and talked about the need to strengthen the role of the Basque commissions. It has also deepened the role of local leaders, who are not members of the committee and who are not in the structure of the company, but who show a favorable attitude towards the Basque company.
In the management of companies, the internationalization process and the logic of the markets often leaves the Basque country in the background. It shall be in contact with other languages and the management of the undertaking shall undertake to respect the linguistic criteria in all areas of the undertaking. Studies indicate that the use of Euskera in the formal sphere is increasing, but that it tends to remain at more informal levels. Since the stairs are not cleaned from the bottom to the top, it will be necessary to involve the administrations and the addresses, without forgetting the relations of colleagues. It has been said on the day that, speaking, reflecting, becoming aware and acting in a more coherent way.
