Who doesn't want Pussy Riot (PR) girls? Anyone with critical vision can be sure they like it. The protest is violent and peaceful and, furthermore, do not say that the dances of these punk feminists are not similar to the mechanics of the movements that Japanese cartoons make. They're added to colored suits, and that's where we have the new heroes of the 21st century. The truth is that they are not very understood among the Russians, but loved “in the world” (in the world=in the west, in international politics, because they are synonyms).
Most of my Russian friends have not seen with good eyes the form of protest that the PR used, but I have one that has a firm attitude in favour. He, angry, admitted that the issue has raised more concern among his foreign friends than among his friends. I too, as my most thoughtful punk group, quickly put the PR photo on my Facebook wall “Punk rock is not a crime! Free Pussy Riot!
However, it is not punk, libertarians and those on the radical left who have shifted their criticisms to their solidarity and judgment to different parts of the world; no, that work has been done by the Western media. As they repeated the news over and over again, thousands of expressions of support for PR have emerged. It was curious to see the total agreement between the centre-left and the far-right media, with exceptions. Because it is often easy to denounce the injustices of other countries, even more so if it will create the illusion that it will make your own country more democratic and free. Therefore, among those who have denounced the PR trial, there are few who denounce violations of their countries' freedom of expression. However, many have maintained a clearly hypocritical attitude.
But let us talk about the churches, can anyone imagine similar protests in the cathedrals of Warsaw, Vilnius or Seville by kiss? Hardly. For example, after hearing the ruling against the PR, in Cologne three people entered the cathedral and were evacuated in an instant. In the trial he faces a three-year prison petition, but the world of communication doesn’t care the least. It is not new that silence, for example, that in the Spanish state the rappers are stopped or questioned is one of the latest fashions, and speaking of punkis, a few months ago in a concert in Indonesia 65 punk were arrested for their appearance and their musical tastes. They then cut their hair and locked them in something similar to a concentration camp (“police academy”) to “reorient” their behaviors, but they have not been mainstream in the world.
International policy is simple and miserable. What matters is not the new, but where it has happened and what the interests of the West are. Based on this, the media agenda and the story are completed. It is known that the same violation of rights does not have the same media attention if it has occurred in Russia or the United States, Colombia or Venezuela, Saudi Arabia or Syria, the Dominican Republic or Cuba, etc. That is why, for Western amateurs, the PR trial has been a good opportunity to hit the Russian political system. From behind there is no altruistic interest in freedom of expression or in the construction of a more democratic Russia. Behind it is the usual thing, just weakening the legitimacy of the enemy.
