The Markets (large banks, international investment funds, multinationals…) and their media spokespeople, in addition to the social and labor cuts we have been suffering for years, have put in place the following medicine: to make the population to the point that there is no choice but to swallow before capitalism; to convince it that there is no choice but to surrender. This “medicine” of the markets, wise and productive, assures them that a part of the population will stand idly by and reject the insurrection.

It is not true that there is no alternative. It already exists. And, moreover, there are means to carry them out, which will be beneficial to the majority of citizens whenever there is a political will to implement them in social policies. In Euskal Herria, the sovereign parties (EA, Alternatiba, Aralar and the Abertzale left) have made a reasonable and concrete proposal. This proposal includes six measures that make it possible to work “towards a new, fairer social model, equal between men and women, more respectful of the environment and more participative”: tax reform, immediate moratorium on major infrastructures, public sector commitment, creation of an investment fund that will generate the multiplication of R & D & I, debate on social and economic development in the regions, and public national banking.

The first two measures could lead to savings of up to EUR 1 billion, so that other social and economic policies can be implemented. Is there no alternative? Are they utopias? No. But we have to use our political and economic sovereignty to achieve another socio-economic model, totally different from the one that generated this crisis. There are alternatives. And the economic means for its implementation.
