It is a lie that there is no money in public coffers. There is no money to maintain health, education and social rights. There is no money to maintain the welfare state obtained through the labor struggle of the last decades. But, on the other hand, there is money to save banks and financial institutions and to satisfy the hunger of the “markets”. There is money to spend on the armory, as many well-known actors in the “markets” are producing weapons, such as large banks and companies, including the Basques. Indeed, last week we learned of the following: "Spain will participate in the NATO spy aircraft system. The cost of defence will be EUR 126 million between 2012 and 2037”. This is a new surveillance system that NATO wants to launch in 2015 via unmanned aircraft, involving a total of 13 countries. In total, it will be EUR 1.6 billion, of which the Spanish Ministry of Defence is expected to contribute EUR 126 million.

Isn't there money for social services? Yes, it is. What happens is that the Spanish Ministry of Defence has to pay another EUR 26 billion for weapons, as the Defense itself acknowledged in 2011 “those that are not used or serve for struggles that do not exist”. It should be noted that of this amount, EUR 23 billion corresponds to the Aznar legislature and another EUR 3 billion to that of Zapatero. It seems that the Rajoy Government is following Aznar’s trail… More weapons, less social rights!

Thus, it is logical that part of Basque citizenship should raise the need for economic and political independence – as has been seen in Aberri Eguna. Spain and France make us slaves to NATO and its millionaire ‘defence’ systems.
