Born in 1984, Ione Gorostarzu depicts in his first pages Des a healthy and present death. I got into a kind of anguish, I was invaded by the strength of the first poems, seeing how natural it talks about how incomprehensible, how delicious the finish describes, and other deaths that happen to us when we're alive: greetings, remorse, bedtime.
That can only be achieved by poetry; to describe what is in us and what is nowhere. The writer is very close to his bowels and, therefore, to the reader. I've seen a personal and human book, clean, without useless noises or artifacts, and, as I will say, a temperate book to the
final vista.El of each poem, especially careful in this book as in the deeper verses, is a caress or a sudden blow: “Lava hairs/ flame nails/ sleep in the nap but live, Etna”. And indeed, representing the volcano, on page 31, the book takes another direction without losing strength. The voice wakes up, the writing lights up. Antithesis, play of words, paradox… and all the literary figures we can imagine, Gorostarzu combines them unconsciously and with refinement. Some parts are drunk spontaneously and then lick on the lips, a sign of the rich pen. Although written intelligently and smoothed with cold technique, many of the images are physical and real: “I’m tied – to vosotrxs – to calves like sokamuturrera.” The writer
has said that this is a collection of poems written at a not so long stage of his life, in a fairly tax-intensive and bulk manner, and, indeed, it has a point of unconsciousness and a point of sleep. Love is pure and hatred is pure too. It evidences doubts, contradictions, doubts and weaknesses. And speaking of weak points, I would say that speech also has difficulties in keeping pace, very much based on repetitions and complicity. “Cold is the last breath / cold.” In the last part, the book returns to the recurring theme of death and introspection, responding to its own voice as if it did not dare. Perhaps the fears and patrols of the school of writers have to see – still, think that it is possible to learn how to be a writer! I will eagerly await the voice contained in the book, when it breaks out: at least, it has made me feel for a long time.
