As good as the Mediterranean rosemary, Rosmarinus officinalis, to stop memory loss and maintain aging, is the Chinese ginkgo, the grandson of Ginkgo. And those are not their only skills!
Ginkgo is one of the oldest known plants. It relates to fossils from the Persian era of 300 to 250 million years ago. For unknown reasons, it is alive in several valleys in China; in wooded areas that have been cultivated according to genetic research. It has also been planted in monasteries in Japan, Korea and China.
This old tree, placed outside the monasteries and made of wood with altars and tools for celebrations, is venerated. In addition, it is full of curiosities. It's dioic: some are males and other females. The butyric acid that contains the fruit adds a strong smell to the poop. It does not support any evil or epidemic that can attack you safely. It fights pollution and is cultivated a lot in cities. The absence of insects that feed the wood and its ability to revitalize through the profusion of high and aerial roots, makes its life long, thousands of years. It is said that there are some specimens that are over 2,500 years old...
Engelbert Kaempfer was the first scientist in the West to see and describe this tree at the Nagasaki Buddhist monastery in 1691. He had to face the opinion of all colleagues at the time that Ginkgo was a plant that only lived on fossils. The purchased and traded seeds were sown at the Planteria de Utrecht, from where the trees still live.
