ETA has definitively put an end to its armed activity. What is your assessment?

It's bittersweet. ETA is over and comforting. However, I believe that ETA, particularly in recent years, has caused disproportionate political suffering: excessive, as the armed organisation says, compared to the objectives it pursues. It has caused a great flood: first you have to pick up the mud and then start building it.

An analyst has written "late, but on time."

In time for what? Perhaps it is to show that we have the same power to fight in politics as anyone else. Bildu is demonstrating that, but if political benefits are expected in this way, no. ETA has been disfigured and decapitalized politically. The dying are usually used to die sweet or lethal injection.

ETA has called on the governments of Spain and France to dialogue on the resolution of the consequences of the conflict. How do you see this possibility? In what time?

No one should believe in Spain or France. We've been taught a thousand times, and not just Tony Blair. Record of his history. They have, of course, achieved paragraph 1 of their interest. The rest will forget it, and only the left will remember it. Only the issue of prisoners will be negotiated, but in the long term. As has happened in this type of process. What position has the Spanish State taken? PSOE and pp, including Zapatero and Rajoy.

Poor disposition. In Spain they have sold this “item” and now they have difficulty selling the opposite. This article does not sell electionally. What should the first steps of the new process bring? To solve the situation of prisoners? Cultivating attitude towards the victims?

In the new time, the new Abertzale left has to work to reach agreements: electoral pacts, offering progressive alternatives, seeking alliances to achieve its political objectives. Only in this way can Europe (the only way to convince Madrid) be persuaded that it is up to us to exercise the right to decide. If in this way the issue of victims is interwoven, we have it for a long time. At the same time, if short-term results are expected, there is nothing to do.

How does Basque society view the new time and the new process?

It is a difficult but interesting process, especially for the left Abertzale. Politically, it has to be built from scratch, but political and social strength is strong. If the forces are collected, we cannot cancel them immediately. The era of the vanguard is over. Otherwise, we're lost.
