The objective of González Gorosarri has been to create a methodology for measuring the quality of news that allows applying this method to the media in Euskera and the rest. In addition, he has worked two lines of research in the thesis directed by Txema Ramírez de la Piscina: one, from its creation until 2008, in the direction that has taken the quality of news in the Basque media, and two, taking some news from 2008 and comparing them in the Basque and Spanish media.
He says that in the three Basque media the administration has taken a major role. What does this mean?
To find out who is the protagonist of the news, I have separated four groups. One: the so-called administration, that is, all political parties, in short a concept in line with the structure of the State. Two: the professional social partners, that is, the communication companies and the professionally constituted agents, such as trade unions, sports teams... Three: autonomous social agents – workers’ assemblies, social movements – working in society. Four: news that doesn't have the identified protagonist.
The Administration is gaining more and more strength, but along with it there is an increase in the news that does not have its identified protagonist. For example, accidents and natural disasters. Above all, it is the autonomous social partners who have lost their place, but it is true, for example, that Berria has clung to them. Not so in the public media.
Political issues are shrinking and social issues are getting stronger.
The Social Section has increasingly gained ground both in the headlines and in the first pages of the media. However, the news that has increased the size of society is not news of social incidence, nor is it news of social movements. It's static news, it's light news: accidents, natural disasters, shows, that come through the image -- it's not news -- it doesn't have any informative content. You don't know what you're seeing, the news or the Basque Direct. This trend is also reaching the written media. Claims have a lot of room, especially if they have a picture.

This dependence has been increasing until the media in Basque has lost the ability to generate news.
You mentioned the rapid journalism model.
This is a journalistic model that comes from what has been exposed: from the outside – news agencies or communication cabinets – the news that comes, the information that they have provided to us, reform it and take it out. In this work model, there are increasing difficulties to create news with Basque content in the Basque Country.

Dominique Strauss-Kahn, DSK case. Look at who is the protagonist, where it has happened, at what time – at night, I was about to take the plane – and the next day three media outlets reported on it. But then, there has been no way to find a background of other visions. The photographs or radio or television breaks that have been made have been sent by another means to the journalist. It is news with a greater impact than the masquerade, but in the Mascarada you have much more resources to develop them and you can manage the resources that make you independent. In the case of DSK you are sold. The Spanish media in Euskal Herria have as much information about DSK as the media in Euskera, no more than us. As for the masquerade, we believe it would be our area and we did not influence it.
We've lost the ability to influence our community...
We are keeping our distance with the States, with Spain and with France, because we are aware of this, but we are not aware of the wave of news coming from the United States. The number of international news is increasing, and you might think they're from all over the world, but no, they're news from the United States or news agencies from the United States. For example, in the headlines or on the first page, in 2008, Berria included five news from the US Government for every news from the Spanish Government.
He says that the media are losing their attachment to society.
The distance from the objectives set by these media is widening, either due to lack of awareness or lack of resources. In times of conscience, another journalism has been carried out. Over the years, consciousness has relaxed. Journalism, after all, is a filter of power, and without that the power (the news agency) disseminates pure advertising.
