Charles F. While Hockett studied the relationships between animals and human language, the linguist listed the traits of natural languages. In the Basque version of Soziolinguistika Klusterra, one of these fifteen features was: “The speaker has the ability to listen to himself.” Fuck! "Oh my God! I thought after reading it.
In fact, it is clear that we have the capacity to listen to ourselves. What we often lack is the ability to listen or listen to what others, the others, tell us. How often does it not happen that the speaker enjoys listening to himself, happy and proud of his rhetoric and eloquence, but, on the contrary, when the time comes to listen, rather than to listen, he is dedicated to think, to meditate and to refine what he then has to say.
Listening, in fact, seems to me to be a more difficult exercise to say. At least many times. We see courses and workshops to speak in public and communicate properly everywhere, and I think they can be necessary and useful. There may be a good speaker and a good speaker from the natural world, but there are also good and effective techniques and resources, and you can learn and work.
But courses and workshops can also be necessary and useful to learn to listen or listen. Rather than quiet and open your ears, it's knowing how to listen. I am convinced that there are also techniques that can be taught and worked for this, and although I have at least not received any concrete offer, there will be others that can be guided around. The majority, I think, would be grateful if we had the opportunity to improve in this area. It would be a good thing for you to know that you're being heard, and your neighbor would also be grateful if you knew that you're really attentive and talking to someone. Let us therefore listen, but let us pay the same attention, or more, to what the following tells us.
In the list of Hockett mentioned at the beginning there is another prominent feature. It is obvious, but in spite of that, the US linguist thought it could be put on the list. It is as follows: “The speaker has the ability to lie.” That would also be to organize a course, even to write a small collaboration of this kind, but we will leave it for another occasion.
