The social and national construction of Euskal Herria needs tools that serve us for its knowledge and transformation. Under the control of several administrations – Spanish, French and European... – and although two administrations are separated in the South – the CAV and Navarre –, Euskal Herria does not have, with exceptions, a national institutional structure of its own. And those structures are necessary to organize our country. In this direction, all our efforts, including those of the whole of Basque society, should be concentrated. These efforts require appropriate tools to achieve national structures.
In this context, the Observatory for the Economic and Social Development of the Basque Country, Gaindegia, stands out. Humbly, but with dignity and doing his job well, despite the difficulties, he has already turned five years. Gaindegia is an example of autonomy in terms of its functioning, diversity, professionalism and intellectual rigor. Gaindegia offers the necessary tool to know, analyze and represent the socioeconomic reality of the Basque Country. It is essential to transform our society. For this reason, despite its institutional and economic difficulties, we must acknowledge and applaud the efforts it is making every day to improve the socio-economic picture of the entire Basque Country.
That is where the High Report 2010 which has just been published – and the fourth – is located. In it he makes an exhaustive and professional analysis of the socioeconomic indicators of the Basque Country. It would be fair and necessary for Basque institutions – public and private – as well as Basque citizenship – to support Gaindegia in one way or another, including economic aid. It is an instrument serving the social and national interests of the Basque Country.
