Rob Summers, a member of the baseball team at the University of Oregon, USA, broke his spine five years ago as a result of a car accident and lost control of his lower body forever, or at least he thought so.
Summers turned himself over to the Kentucky Spine Research Center, and we’ve recently learned that he’s not only taken his first steps, but he’s managed to stay on his feet for at least a few minutes.
Apparently, a few years ago, they put the portable electrostimulation unit on his back. During numerous training sessions they have been stimulating the nerves around them, showing them that they do not have to pay attention to the brain, but to the portable machine; after many sessions it has been achieved that the legs of Summers attend to the new “brain”. We can get closer to making certain dreams come true.
