Yuri Alexeyevich Gagarin was born on March 9, 1934 in Klushino, USSR. His father was a carpenter and his mother worked in agriculture. After completing his basic studies, Gagarin specialized in foundry engineering.
Since his dream was to fly, at the age of 20 he enrolled in an aeroclub and obtained very good results. From there he went to the pilot academy and was among those selected to be a cosmonaut.
On April 12, 1961, Gagarin was sent into space, becoming the first human to not only feel weightlessness, but also to see the Earth from space. His flight lasted 108 minutes and he toured the Earth at a speed of 27,000 km/h. The finish of the trip was not similar to the current ones, as it used the parachute to land.
Gagarin died on March 27, 1968, after an accident with the MIG starter he was driving.
