- When Maialen Lujanbio, Judith Montero and Xabier Erkizia founded Ornitorrinkus in 2006, they were faced with a peculiar animal project. A Freak like that. The feet of rhyme, the classic trunk and the apparent torso of the Eustachian tube. The three parents raised the newcomer with love, beautiful and tender. If so, then let's go.

He began to make public sessions in which he played with the voice, saxons, sounds, lights and partitions given to the people, along with Iñigo Telletxea and Río Gogza. In addition to these sessions, they began to make and compile recordings, written texts and a large number of pieces. With the fourth year completed, this time presented by the Ornitorrinkus project, “it’s a long first job”. “It includes a series of exercises, music or songs (according to personal tastes) that have been completed and elaborated since the beginning of
the project.” In these 12 pieces recorded with CDs, there is a very intense acoustic dynamic. Mix a refined and elegant sound mix, and at the same time raw and daring. We will hear the voice of Maialen in a piece, exotic and attractive, far away and immersed in a soundscape. Completely present and immediately in another. Or forming a texture with saxons.
Judith Montero excites the ornithorrinic. Provide the body with rich saxophone sounds. Sometimes polyphonic sounds with fita or tongue, violent attacks on others. Solid sonority with saxons of different records, interspersing microtonal melisms, textures and complex dynamics.
Lujanbio gives voice to the unclassifiable animal (in Italian the animal’s mouths are called verso), spreads the rhyme feet and massages them by singing. Gather an idea of what the Ornithorran is becoming and speak out. Talking and saying the word.
Xabier Erkizia, who understands Eustachian’s horn as a trap, awakens the enthusiasm of the game to the project, sewing and dressing with sweet noises and acoustic crosses.
Pause will be the tail of the trio. The active attitude towards Judith, Xabi and Maialen is remarkable. The silences they need to achieve the combinations between them. An elegant discretion that will take you into the music. Instead of maintaining one’s character, compromise with the contributions of the other two. A saxophone phoneme will be picked up and multiplied by the electronics. Or the word will reveal the presence of noises and silent intervals. And together they will synthesize the acoustic space.
The recordings will not be easy to classify and will lead you piece by piece to surprise your belief, the excitement of the music.
In addition to the CD, a folded book poster. The texts of Joseba Sarrionandia, Ixiar Rozas, Xabier Erkizia, Jakoba Errekondo and Maialen Lujanbio are based on several pieces. And all of them illustrated one by one by the cartoonist José Belmonte.
