Whether you like the situation or not, the Basque Country is in the ETA truce. Why, then, is it that from here and there, the unionist political forces repeat every day “the band” up and “the band” down?

Hardly anyone will believe that this behavior helps to improve the situation. It is precisely this behavior that poisons the political climate.

The enemies of the Basque Country repeat that peace is needed, that peace is coming. But who will believe that this painful language serves to consolidate and speed up the process?

No one, of course.

This infamous behavior leads us to old bad situations. Even then, the unionists denounced the young people of the time – of course, those

of ETA. Even at that time, the former warriors, sadly, the former warriors of the lost war of 1936, who had become honoured masters of houses, condemned the young warriors of ETA. It was enough for the elders to remember the heroic acts of 1936-1937.

And they answered as follows: “You, young man! Where were you when we were fighting in Walnut and Hemp, with guns in our hands? You were young, often not even born.” And this forgives everything.

In 1964, for example, when Franco celebrated those “25 years of peace”, when we were in the mountains for years, we were tormented by the fact that those condoning celebrations were organized by the Francoists, while you young people, who had just left the cradle (even often unborn), what were you doing in 1964?

We, the ancient warriors, have achieved the present climate of peace. Skillfully, without calapitas, and because we have realized that times have changed.
And the schism, the suspension, arose; and the old patriots and the young patriots became enemies in the 1960s. Happy enemies of the Basque Country: “We’ve done it, we’ve done it.” Old bandoliers reign.

The older people, frightened by the attitude of the young, fed up, furious, said: “Where are we going like this? Where do these ‘crazy kids’ want to take us? (Joxe Azurmendi has clearly shown this in his famous book.)

However, the “crazy young people” achieved a fascinating renaissance of the Basque Country in all fields (the old ones being left out), promoted the United Basque Country, in 1968 they organized the historic and prosperous Arantzazu Meeting.

Those crazy youngsters of the time were the “band” of the time; although they did not use the new syntagma of today and fashion.
Gerti, Villasante, Krutwig, Irigoien were the “crazy young people” of the time. Often “damned young

people.” But those “crazy young people” surpassed those hitherto considered sacred dogmas. For comparison, the PNV is the only nationalist force, and the PSOE is the only possible left ally.

And so the old patriots said that ETA was sober.

But the kids back then were right. As has become clear in recent years.

But that's how history is written. And it is useless to think that new ideas prevail aisa.

The new generations always rise up the slope and deny the old generation. It's the Law of Life or the Law of History, apparently.
