Some people in the area where I live use the Basque expression “papurras” – I won’t give a name or surname – to say to those who feed on what has been left over on the plate. The “papurras” are those in which others have the ability or patience to take the best and satisfy themselves with the remains.

I can't say that Mark Lanegan belongs to that club. In 1985 he founded The Screaming Trees. As a poor drummer, the band asked him to take the microphone and in the early 1990s, “shouting trees” were at the epicenter of the grunge explosion in Seattle,

USA. The following is known: Nirvana’s shadow became too long for almost all other teams. He forced anyone who wanted to take gold from the quarry of alternative rock to work in the halls – look back a few pages, how Kurt Cobain still plays a role; and he’s been in the sator for 16

years. But we said: Lanegan is not a “papurras”. Despite the loss of flavor of grunge chewing gum, many groups of the generation have lengthened and lengthened the vindication of what they were, showing the leftovers that they are not disgusting to introduce the yew.

In contrast to this, Lanegan has developed a solid solo career and has left interesting collaborations: He plays with Queens of The Stone Age, forming the duo The Gutter Twins... The final result is a Hawk album curated with Isobel Campbell by Belle and Sebastian. They have their third job together, combining American folk and blues. They have not invented the world with this LP, but the result is truly ramegious and, to put it in the 90s, it has been weeks without leaving my walkman.
