Lately I've been reading newspapers backwards.Yeah, ignoring the usual way, that's how I start my daily rite. I start from behind, and then like a grasshopper, I jump through the pages with my gaze resting on the columns.

Because in them is precisely the reason that justifies my way of reading. In fact, the points of view offered by the news agencies, and consequently by the newspapers in the face of homogeneous information, tend to be multiple and elevated. And the reader needs them to develop an autonomous thinking and also to create his own opinion. For this, the arguments, hypotheses and theses used by the columnists are indispensable.

With this in mind, I think it is very important how and for what purpose the “public space” formed by the columns is used. After all, whoever writes becomes a privileged human being. But why is that? Because he is given the right to make his arguments and reasons public and to explain them.

And I do not come to do the sociology of the columnists: because the columnists, like the readers, will have different objectives and motivations, some more analytical, others more valuable; some will offer orientations, others will offer stimuli... In any case, the starting point for me lies in the respect due to the reader. Without it, what is writing? Isn't it about sincerely making the journey from one corner to the other?

And this question brings us to the field of responsibility. In this sense, knowing oneself is the first step. Otherwise, it is sometimes evident that the columnist uses this space to reveal his existential doubts, and in my image, he confuses the reader, who does not know if he is asking for help or what he is doing. For this reason, it is necessary for one to be at peace with oneself, with emotions and fears under control, so that one can then engage in the deliberative process of reflection.

Undoubtedly, in this new era in which it is necessary to develop critical thinking, it is worth exercising; even more so today, when reading newspapers has become an almost marginal activity. And of course, as long as we have our own ability to choose, let’s make a choice. And you know mine: start from behind so that you can move forward.
