What do you want to invest your tax money in? The campaign of the Fiscal Objection begins
- The Fiscal Objection campaign is a project that refuses to subsidize projects established by the State when making a tax return and declares its support for initiatives of its own choosing. That is, refusing to pay for military spending, bank bailouts, AAV or individual taxes on large infrastructure that is to be built, in return supporting projects that are “really worth it,” such as environmental or feminist groups.
The Fiscal Objection campaign begins with a theatrical parody near the palace of the Provincial Council of Bizkaia. The organizations have denounced the “misuse” of part of the citizens’ taxes included in the income statement.
According to last year’s data, the Spanish State spent 18,776 million euros on military spending; 404 euros from the income of each taxpayer. Madrid has just announced an increase in the budget for Defensa, specifically 11% more, and they warn that this increase will be thanks to the taxes of the citizens.
The members of the platform explain that this exercise is a tool for “empowerment” as individuals and as a collective. “It is a tool that allows us to be protagonists in the construction of a better society.” They also remind us that wars begin in our own home and that the way to stop the weapons that leave Santurce begins within the responsibility of each one.
In addition to helping citizens to renounce this injustice due to the existence of alternatives, the platform aims to channel taxes to other projects.
It is common for income statements to arrive at your home. In these cases, everyone is advised to go to the nearest office, in Álava, Bizkaia, and Gipuzkoa. At no cost, they will allow anyone to devote a percentage of their taxes to social initiatives. Details of alternative projects can be found on their website. Feminist, ecological, anti-militarist and pro-refugee groups are among the initiatives that can be supported.
