Eight days of strike have been organized in the concerted centres, from 17 to 19 October and from 11 to 15 December. Convened by the trade unions ELA, STEILAS, CCOO, LAB and UGT, they ask the employers of the Autonomous Association of Christian Schools and Schools (IZEA) to start the negotiation. Ikastolas have not joined the call for strike. In total, 9,000 workers are called.
The last strike took place on 25 April and trade unions report that negotiations are still blocked. They anticipate that if after the coming days of strike there is no possible content for signing the Convention, the strike dynamic will be strengthened in January.
They stress that the Basque Government also has "something to say" and that they will therefore ask the Department of Education to meet.
Trade unions aim to negotiate the Labour Convention. The main demands are, among others, the alleviation of workloads, the improvement of the conditions of the most feminized and precarious sectors, the increase in wages that guarantee the CPI and the adoption of measures for the maintenance of jobs.
