Workers at the Ezkirotz BSH household appliance factory have resumed production this Tuesday, after the Christmas stop. However, uncertainty has marked the return to work following the announcement of closure on 16 December by the German multinational. This would mean the closure of the plant and the dismissal of the 655 workers on the plant.

At the request of the Works Council, meetings have been held between management and plant workers. It called on workers to resume production "normally", but trade union representatives considered the request "impracticable" because of the situation. The Works Council has stated that the local management of BSH is "in a state of shock" and has called for dialogue with the management of the German multinational. The governments of Navarre and Spain have also agreed on the importance of negotiating directly with the German federal leadership.

Meeting in Madrid on Friday

The Spanish Ministry of Labour has convened a meeting for next Friday in the Community of Madrid. There will be the representatives of the workers, the Ministry of Labour and the Government of Navarra, led by the president, María Chivite. After several weeks without listening to the invitation, BSH’s address in Germany has recently announced its presence in Madrid on Friday, 29.

The main objective of the negotiations is for the company to review the closure of the production plant. If this option does not succeed, the next objective would be to achieve an industrial plan that guarantees work alternatives and clarifies the future of the 655 workers affected.
