The Association of Euskadi Film Halls (EZAE) has criticised the new cuts made by the Basque Government. The capacity of cinemas has been set at 35%, a decision that the association has described as "incomprehensible" because cinemas are safe spaces: “There have been no outbreaks of coronavirus in cinemas throughout the health crisis,” they said. Several members of EZAE will close their rooms to protest the Security Council’s decision as of Monday.
Regarding the pandemic, they pointed out that they suffered losses of more than ten million euros 2020.urtean. But in recent weeks, the halls have made a "great effort" to recover the usual times, keep cinemas open everyday and get all the workers out of the temporary ere.
However, they have warned that the new restrictive measures will "frustrate" the progress made to date. Many rooms will not be able to “withstand the situation” and will have to close it. For this reason, EZAE has asked the Basque Government, in addition to the measures established – use of a mask, social distancing and hand washing – to maintain the capacity limit by 60%.
