The right wins the Portuguese elections and the far right quadruples the results

After eight years of government, the Socialist Party PS was in doubt about winning the Portuguese elections again. In the elections on Sunday, the AD Democratic coalition in the centre right has been imposed with 79 seats. PS has achieved 77 and extreme right Chega 48. Compared to 2022, the extreme right has quadrupled the results.
As the right side of the center has not won the majority to govern, he invites him to govern together the ends of the right Chega. Luis Montenegro, AD candidate, says he will fulfill his commitment not to negotiate with the extreme right.
The other parties that follow them are Liberal Initiative (5%), Left Bloc (4.5%), Unitary Democratic Coalition (3.3%), Free (3.3%), Environmental PAN (2%) and National Democratic Alternative (1.6%). 62.2 per cent of the population has participated in the elections.
Decadence of the Socialist Party
The right goes up and the left goes down. The PS had so far 120 seats and an absolute majority, so it has lost 43 representatives. Candidate Pedro Nuno Santos accepts failure and says he will be in opposition.
