This Monday a note was published in which he expressed solidarity with the professor dismissed by the University of Deusto, Adrián Almazán, and denounced that dismissal was due to ideological reasons: “The decision has more to do with the critical view of Adrián’s work with technology and capitalism, as well as its active militancy in different social and environmental movements, or with the renunciation of mercantilist pressures.” Steilas, Ekologistak Martxan, Julen Rekondo, LAB, ESK and Gune Ekosozialista, National Environmental Award, signed the manifesto.
The signatories recall that the world is in an eco-social crisis generated by the “capitalist development model” and that this situation requires “critical attitudes”. They have therefore stressed that “more necessary than ever” autonomous institutions and bodies, linked to social actors and “without pressure” from large business and technological groups. They have denounced that universities are currently “exposed to attacks” on the market and companies.
They have therefore stressed that the dismissal of Almazán “severely” affects university freedom: “It supposes an ideological censorship that violates the freedom of thought, professorship and research.” They have shown their solidarity with the professor and have warned that, to the extent that the privatization of the university is increasing, the precarization of the working conditions of the faculty is also greater.
