In October 2005, the former textile factory of Lizundia was occupied to create the Putzuzulo Amets Factory. After many years as a refuge and home to many initiatives, demolition was at risk in recent years. In fact, the mayor of Zarautz signed in July 2019 the authorization to demolish the gaztetxe building. In this neighborhood, construction of dwellings was going to start and many buildings in the area were demolished, leaving gaztetxe between rubble.
It has already arrived. For many years we have been on top of the threat of Putzuzulo's demolition and have been introducing the machines, little by little, to the interior of the house in which we have been made. Faced with this situation, the members of the gaztetxe launched a campaign to publicize the situation of the gaztetxe and to inform the city council that Zarautz needed a gaztetxe. The fruit of this struggle has been to ensure a space that guarantees a gaztetxe, the new gaztetxe that is now being conditioned. “They’ve already put the machines inside the house we’ve made,” say the members of the gaztetxe on social media. “Eleven projects, agents and a shelter to bring people together are falling apart. However, the work done during all these years will remain nothing.”
The thanks and gestures made to Putzuzulo in the last year have been numerous. On 17 July, for example, the last radio program created and broadcast from the gaztetxe by Arraio Irratia took place live.
A citizen makes a video showing the current situation of the Gaztetxe Putzuzulo building:
