The Salazar River Protection Association is in the process of being established
- Salazar aims to create a partnership that protects one of the most emblematic rivers of the Basque Pyrenees from the threats it faces.
According to the journal Mendixut, a new partnership for environmental protection in the Pyrenees will soon be held. In particular, it will be set up to defend the Salazar River and its presentation will probably take place around June. At the moment, no name or image has been given to the association: "We had enough to invent a name, but since we are the names we have chosen to say something and share that determination with the majority of the citizens," the promoters of the association explained.
The initiative seeks the conservation and improvement of the river and its implementation aims to "be useful for the entire region". To this end, they want to commit the municipalities and associations found in the Pyrenean valleys. In any case, they have made it clear that the basis of the work to be carried out will be the people linked to the region.
Precisely, the Urbizi association warned not long ago of the risk that the waters of Salazar will be used for the filling of the Esa dam. Specifically, a project of the Ebro Hydrographic Confederation foresees the construction of a dam in Aizpurgi and channelling the flow of Salazar to the giant reservoir.
