This is explained by Architecture Professor Xotil Natke: “It’s an experiment, to see if we are capable of what we have designed so far from the architectural offices, what we call hegemony, in order to break and do in auzolan.” In a process that will last for two years, the plaza will become a space of experimentation in which the citizens will have a leading role, according to the words of Eztitxu Mujika, mayor of Zaldibia: “The objective is to involve the citizens and put in the front line the knowledge of the citizenship so that the students of Architecture have that base”.
Last February, surveillance workshops were held and in March, workshops related to feminism, in which the need for a plaza that contemplates these areas was reflected. It has recently been the turn of children and young people, who have left in the plaza the material obtained from the shops and workshops of the area (wheels, coils, boxes, fabrics, shells, veneers…) and with what they play, where and how they play. “The plaza will also be to play, but not forever,” says Natk. For example, are you going to put some tables and some banks and the children and young people will put them in the square? How will they be used? These are clues for the proper design of the plaza.
In May the issue is common health and in June the independent space. The initiative “From the edge to the middle, creation of spaces in Auzolan” progresses step by step with the aim of implementing another way of building.
