This has been published by the news agency Europa Press. The Spanish Government has also expressed its "total support" to the families of the missing workers, Joaquín Beltrán, and Alberto Sololuze, among others.
Following the collapse of the Zaldibar dump on 6 February, the teams that have worked on the rescue work have not been able to find the bodies of the two workers. Following this decision, the Environment Minister of the Basque Government, Iñaki Arriola, contacted the Spanish Government to see if the search for the two workers can continue.
Moncloa replied yes, as the decree stipulating that only the essential activities will be maintained includes, as an exception, those relating to civil protection and waste management. Rescue work can therefore continue to be normal after official confirmation by the Government of Spain.
Lack of information by the Government
EH MEP Bildu Josu Estarrona has today criticised the fact that the Basque Government is not sending documentation relating to the case of the uncontrolled landfill of Zaldibar. Through social media, Estarrona has stated that the Basque Government has failed to comply with the deadlines set by Parliament to report on the Zaldibar case and that the same is happening in relation to Covid-19.
The possibility of asking questions or asking the government for information is maintained even when the Basque parliament is dissolved and the permanent deputation is in force. According to Estarrona, before 26 March the Executive formed by the PNV and the PSE had to have answered six questions raised by the parliamentary groups, but they have only answered one, related to cultural heritage.
By 18 March, at the request of PP, Arriola’s Environmental Department was required to provide numerous reports and files on the company Verter Recycling, but it has not yet done so. On the other hand, last Thursday the deadline for four further requests for information, including those relating to the company managing the uncontrolled landfill at Zaldibar and those relating to ambient air quality, ended.
