The Basque Government has underlined the lack of continuity of the strike, especially in Osakidetza. Once again, it has ignored the questions of the screams of thousands and thousands of people, the PNV has continued to make a banal and justifying speech in favor of care and has wanted to despise the strike. In the same way others have followed, saying that in the general strikes the shops here and there are closed and that the world stays. No, 30 November has not left the world, but there has been an earthquake in the towns, cities and rural areas of Hego Euskal Herria. The needs for community public surveillance and immediate changes have shaken the streets, and the members of the Feminist Movement have successfully published the proposed strike model early in the morning after long reflections and debates.
Why did it cost them to understand that to focus surveillance and life, they needed to strike? Why have you had difficulties and reluctance that you did not have in the women's strikes on 8 March? The general feminist strike has caused discomforts everywhere, both internal and external. Among other things, because the Feminist Movement has gone beyond the strikes of 2018 and 2019: In the M8 a number of applications have been made for women’s rights, but in the A30 it has focused on the request for compliance with the well-established People’s Agreement. “To abolish the regime of resident domestic employees, to abandon the privatization of custody, to abandon the Aliens Act, to guarantee the right to housing...” They are as feasible as concrete measures if there is will. And it's uncomfortable to feel that they put the spotlight on yourself, that they name patriarchy, both in institutions and in homes.
It is also uncomfortable for feminists to recognize that the strike has some gaps that are not covered by shouting “we’re not all, homelessness.” Because for the Feminist Movement it has also been a challenge to organize the strike, and it has become clear that not all the agents agree with the Popular Agreement or with the way to socialize it, because they have not wanted to participate in the process or because they have felt outside. There is no doubt that the Feminist Movement has heard criticism and that, as has already been done before, it will continue to work on gaps.
But November 30 was a milestone, and that was thanks to the Feminist Movement. The organization has overcome the challenge and taught us a new way to strike. The organization of the whole day has been exemplary: in the pickets it has been very well measured who stops and where it is explained; questions have been made in strategic places, and racist caretakers and elderly protagonists of the care tasks have taken the word; in the demonstrations a demonstration of strength has been made, because not everyone meets in the rain. It has been a day of many months of previous work and the fruits of working with trade unions and agents have been seen. What was important, however, was that 30 November was a day of organisation, politicisation and integration.
The Feminist Movement off from Pandemia returns to the squares of Euskal Herria in an organized and multitudinous manner. And, beyond the day of the strike, the great achievement has been that of the peoples: they have opened the debate on the concept of care, they have activated the militants and they have had the courage to form mixed groups, they have tried new ways without fear of making mistakes. It is no longer possible to ignore the altars of A30, so we feel uncomfortable: “This has only just begun.”
A decision by the Provincial Council of Álava has left over 150 people without home service, according to EH Bildu. The Navarre Thycna Association has denounced that many immigrant women need to have a room in exchange of 700 euros, domestic staff or an inmate. LAB denounces... [+]
The general feminist strike of November 30 allows us to reflect on the new look and steps taken from the gender perspective in the economy. While the conventional economy only seeks profit, the gender perspective focuses its attention on the life of society and the planet,... [+]
Feminisms have opened deep ancient debates. Among them, the care model and its systemic crisis. Earlier this year, the feminist movement in the Basque Country placed the problem of care among its priorities. The result of the reflection was decided to call for a general strike,... [+]
Conditions, time, consensus… There are many things to consider when calling a general strike. If more is a feminist strike, it is nowhere written what that is, and yet we know how difficult it is to move from the writings to the plaza and from the plazas to the workplaces. But... [+]
