Create an association in Navarre to ask for measures in nursing homes
- Several families of elderly people in the residences of Navarra have created the Zainduz association, with the objective of denouncing the situation of the residences and demanding measures for its solution. The protests have taken place in the Basque Autonomous Community and have called on residents, workers and family members to join the association.
The association consists of around thirty families who feel unprotected at the moment. They denounce that it is unsustainable in the residences and that every day the “rights, dignity and quality of life” of the elderly are violated, as well as the precarious situation of the working people.
They have listed the problems behind this situation: cutbacks, privatisation, lack of staff and poor working conditions. The pandemic has highlighted all these problems, although the problems come from earlier.
Call to organize
Zainduz not only denounces, but also seeks solutions, among them, that health centers ensure the care of people living in residences. Mobilizations have been announced in the coming weeks and residents, workers and family members have been called upon to organize. To do so, they will hold an open assembly next Tuesday, 27, at 18:00 in the Condestable Palace of Pamplona, and have also given the contact email: zainduz-cuidando@gmail.com.
