Last October, the Superior Court of Justice of Navarra, in disagreement with the appeal presented by UGT, suspended some important aspects of the decree of 2017: it left without effect the recognition of Euskera as merit in a mixed and non-Vascophone field for no position. It also rejected the mandatory use of Euskera in labeling, road signs or advertising.
Remírez explained that the Government of Navarra did not appeal the decision of the Provincial Court of Navarra because, as he explained, there was no possibility to do so before the Supreme Court. He undertook to draw up a new foral decree. The idea was to set up a working group and have the standard ready for the end of November last year.
A year later, however, there is no new decree on Euskera. Vice-President Javier Remírez attributed the delay to the state of alarm and the pandemic and announced that they will shortly be submitting a proposal. Since the ruling against the decree, 742 opposition places have been put out to tender in which Euskera has not been valued as merit.
