Counselor Uriarte reappears in a photo in favor of the discriminatory Alarde
- On September 8, the Basque Government’s Minister of Education, Cristina Uriarte, supported the discriminatory Alarde at the Gran Vía de Hondarribia, where hours before there were insults, whistles and black plastics against the Jaizkibel Company, according to a photograph published on social networks.
The Instagram account of Hondarribia’s discriminatory Alarde has published several photos of September 8 on Thursday thanking women who support the men’s show. “Alarde is celebrated year after year thanks to you. You are the true essence of the Alarde de Hondarribia”, points out the message disseminated and in one of the photos the Basque Government Education Minister, Cristina Uriarte, appears smiling.
Uriarte’s support for the discriminatory Alarde of Hondarribia has caused controversy so far this year. Last July, a photograph of her appeared on the Facebook page of the parade organization, which allows women to participate exclusively as singers. Reason: Uriarte's daughter was chosen this year to parade as a singer in an exclusionary company.

A few days after the controversy, in statements to the newspaper El Diario Vasco, Uriarte's daughter confirmed the relationship of the counselor with the discriminatory Alarde: “I knew it was voting day, but I wanted to go with my friend to celebrate [he was also named cantinero]. My mother wouldn't leave me and tell me to wait. A whatsapp came to him, he taught me and I was very happy.”
The Steilas union described Uriarte’s support for the discriminatory Alarde as serious and asked “what message the counselor wants to convey” to the educational community about equality policies. For his part, the counselor stressed that the issue is “a private issue”.
