Seventeen political parties have been banned in Ukraine over the past eight years
- The Socialist Party was banned in October with 11 more matches. The judiciary attributes "rusility" to parties that have disagreements with the government's war policy. The usual activities of these political forces were prohibited since the martial law of 24 February. The party ban with a Communist Gazetter began in 2014.
A Ukrainian court has definitively banned the Ukrainian Socialist Party (UAS) and 11 other parties, on the charge of "rusility" and "threat to national security". However, their actions were suspended since the entry into force of the Framework Law of 24 February 2022.
The other 11 aspects included in this list are: Opposition Bloc, Socialists, Justice and Development Party, Nashi, State, Vladimir Balance Bloc, Opposition to the Left, Sharia Party, Left Forces Union, Platform for Opposition to Life and Progressive Socialist Party of Ukraine. Although most of the above are liberal, Social Democrats or moderate conservatives, most of the legal aspects remaining in the Ukrainian Parliament are far-right or fascist.
Decommunisation
Many other aspects were dissolved much earlier, most of them of Communist nomenclature. Amid the process of "decommunization" initiated by the High Rada in 2015, the Communist Party of Ukraine, the Communist Party of Ukraine or the Communist Party of Workers and Farmers were banned by decree. In the past, many people were persecuted and murdered under the accusation of being communist, while all communist symbols were banned. In 2014, following the holding of the Euromaidana and the coup, the Russian Bloc and the Russian Union were the first to be banned.
Brothers Kokonovitx
In March, the Volodimir Zelenski government arrested and tortured the brothers Mikhail and Aleksander Kokonovitx for being militants of Ukrainian Leninist Communist Youth. The trial against them took place in July, violating the right to defence and other basic procedural guarantees.
