That's what most people want. Because hundreds of thousands of people die in Ukraine. But how to stay? What must be offered to each party so that it does not resume the war? We citizens want to speak out, but what do we demand? According to the major local media, Russia must leave Ukraine and leave the lands it has invaded during this long year. It is. He will then be required to pay for the damage, who will bear the costs of rebuilding infrastructure, summarily trial Putin, etc.
But is that what we have to demand from the public? Is that approach serious? I think he has two serious mistakes immediately. The first is that Russia will not accept in any way, so the proposal does not serve to end the war. Secondly, the proposal does not take into account the reasons for the war and therefore does not serve to solve the problem. Let us be practical and delve into the historical evolution of recent years in order to find a useful proposal.
Without going too far, as when Lenin created the Soviet republic of Ukraine, we go until 1990. That same year Gorbatxov (SESB) and G.Bush Jr. The Presidents (US) agreed that the former would annul the Warsaw Treaty and that NATO would not extend eastward. The Soviet Union was abolished in 1991. But EE.UU, instead of fulfilling their word, they drew up a plan to extend NATO to the East. In 2008 Bush pushed Ukraine into NATO at the Bucharest summit. The Russian authorities reaffirmed that the NATO army had no intention at the borders of Ukraine. In the evaluations of Germany and France, it was possible to hear “no need to provoke Russia now”. For Western Europeans it was also a clear provocation.
In 2014, President-elect Janukovich was dismissed by a coup d'état. In the elections its central point was the neutrality of Ukraine. Victoria Nuland, today Assistant Secretary of State of the United States and a member of that Secretariat at that time, supported the armed coup in Maidan Square. The inhabitants of Donbass were persecuted with weapons by the swing government.
The Minsk peace agreement was signed in 2015. There was an autonomous framework for the two republics of Donbass. But, despite the support of the United Nations (UN), the government did not fulfil its commitment.
The high leaders have repeatedly said that Russia has entered this war because they have endangered its survival.
In 2021, the president of Bide reaffirmed his intention to extend NATO eastward. In order to avoid military confrontation, in December 2021 Vladimir Putin proposed a security agreement between the US and Russia. The following month Joe Biden replied that he was not prepared to negotiate. In February 2022, Russia launched a “special military operation”. Four weeks later, Zelenski publicly accepted neutrality and, under the influence of President Erdogan, in March, in Turkey, Russia and Ukraine signed the first draft peace agreement. Biden frustrated this opportunity and told Ukraine to strengthen the war, because Ukraine needed it within NATO.
With this data it is perfectly understood that the invasion was not to conquer new lands. On the contrary, the aggressive attitude of EE.UU. and NATO, given the lack of respect for the word given and the danger of its survival, Russia decided to anticipate the conflict between them by a first blow, as it caused a tactically favourable situation.
So was it an imperialist attack or a defensive initiative? Geopolitical experts point out that the preceding paragraphs are parts of the same strategy. Those that could be linked to NATO planning, carried out with the aim of the Russian Federation implosising as the Soviet Union did today. The high leaders have repeated time and again that Russia has entered this war because they have endangered its survival.
Following what we said in the first paragraph, what should the citizens of Western Europe claim? First, slow fire, of course. And then diplomacy, starting with the Turkish document of 2022, which is the last peace document signed by both sides. And because citizen mobilization is necessary to mobilize political authorities, to organize citizen mobilization to political parties here. In particular, EH Bildu and the PNV, which are the ones with the greatest capacity to mobilize in the Basque Country.
