The origin of the issue dates back to 2021. At that time, the Basque Country was asked to know about the opposition to the local police in Irun, but the High Court of Justice of the Basque Country annulled the call because it considered it discriminatory for those who do not know Euskera. The resolution was criticized by the Basque cultural activity and by various agents, understanding that those who discriminated with this decision were the Basque citizens of Irun. Then, the Police Academy included profile B2 in the Euskadi Local Police Job Site, and now a court in Vitoria says that to be a policeman it is not necessary.
The resolution violates the “right to work in Euskera and to have citizens cared for in Euskera”, ELA has denounced. In order to deal with these kinds of resolutions, ELA proposes institutional oppositions and workbags.
To guarantee a quality public service in the Basque Country, the Basque Country has on more than one occasion emphasized that the knowledge of the Basque Country by public employees is fundamental.
