“As explained in the last appearance, we believe that the popular festivities, by our nature, should be exempt from the application of Tiket Baia,” points out the first sentence of the press release that was opened by the Vitoria-Gasteiz Txosnas Commission last Friday. The note bears an illustrative title: “In defense of the popular festivities, this year we will also put txosnas.” Previously, on 17 July, the committee denounced that the enclosure was "at risk" for the intention of forcing deputies to introduce Ticket BAI.
“Our activity is non-profit and with social translation. We organize popular and self-managed, participatory and open parties to the whole of society. There is no one here who makes money, all the work we do is voluntary. We do so because we want to make a voluntary contribution to the citizenship of Vitoria-Gasteiz. That is why we do not understand (and no one understands it) that the private company should be equated with when it comes to demanding Tickets Baia. We rely on auzolan, not on making money,” the txosnas have argued in their decision not to accept the Ticket Bai app. The committee has emphasized that the Txosnagune provides a “unique” cultural contribution to the Vitoria festivities, which cannot be imagined “a festival without txosnas” after 43 years of continuous presence, that year after year “thousands” of people enjoy the space and that “hundreds” are those who participate in the organization.
Defense of the popular movement beyond Vitoria
The commission has expressed its commitment to “the defense of the popular movement”, over and above “the aggressions” (“unfeasible demands, bureaucratic or economic obstacles”), maintaining the organization of popular festivities, “please some or not”. In the face of the pretense of imposing the Ticket Bai application, he denounced that the Representative acted with “irresponsibility”: “They should not obstruct the activity of the txosnas, in this case using as an excuse the tax regulations and the fight against fraud”.
The Commission of Txosnas of Vitoria-Gasteiz considers that “aggression” goes beyond Vitoria-Gasteiz and the txosnas and stresses the need to “activate” it against it: “We want to denounce that it will affect the groups and movements that organize the popular festivities of Euskal Herria, or that perform other non-profit activities. Seeing the dimension of aggression against popular festivities, we cannot continue to expand the activation against it”.
Placement and mobilization of txosnas
“Therefore, we will put txosnas from 3 to 9 August and we will carry out the organized programme, over and above the Deputy’s unwillingness,” the committee explained at the last point of the note. In addition, he has announced a mobilization on the day of the opening of the txosnas and on the eve of the official start of the festivities, and has called “all the people and collectives who will fight this aggression”. The details of the mobilisation called for in the Bilbao City Hall will be announced this week.
