"Txorizaleok has at our disposal different platforms and APPS to store and share birdwatching. Among them, eBird is one of the most widely used worldwide, both through the web www.ebird.org and through the APP (eBird APP)," explains the Itsasenara Association. Now, thanks to the work done by this partnership to translate, we have the opportunity to use the entire eBird platform in Basque. "The effort to translate the eBird platform into Euskera is also an initiative of the eBird organization itself, which intends to translate it into as many languages as possible," explains Itsasenara. So far eBird could be used in 11 languages and with the latest update two more languages have been added, Czech and Basque: "Within this initiative of multilingualism, the Basque language has therefore been the 12th language of the world. The Itsasenara association has celebrated "good news not only for the Basque chorizos, but also for the Basque people".
Coordinated by the Itsasenara association, several txorizales have translated the platform to the Basque in recent months. "In addition, in collaboration with the SEO, we incorporated in eBird the Basque nomenclature of all birds in Europe," Itsasenara explained. And it calls on users to warn of any improvements: "This version that has just been presented is already fully functional, but the user will realize that some sub-sections and some texts are still not translated. In the next few weeks we will continue to give the final touches of sand, returning the last sections and correcting the small mistakes that may be. If you find any problems on the platform, we'd like you to get in touch with us."
Here are some of the tools that the chorizos have to gather their observations: Ornitho.eus For the CAPV, Ornitho-navarra for Navarra, Observation.org to introduce global data on birds and other animals, or to track abnormal observations of birds Reservoirbirds.
The Itsasenara Association has called for the use of such platforms: "It is very important to collect and share the observations of the birds that we see the amateurs through a tool of this kind. In fact, thanks to the thousands and thousands of records collected on these platforms, we offer scientists a unique opportunity to track bird populations, analyze population dynamics, understand migration, measure the impact of climate change and, ultimately, take the necessary measures for bird conservation."
eBird is a tool developed by American Cornell University. It is free and available in 13 languages worldwide. eBird allows you to store the bird lists we've seen in your own database and share them with everyone. According to the Itsasenara association, "the benefit of this platform can be measured on two levels: on the one hand, it allows each of us to perform statistics in our observation and an exhaustive historical follow-up, in a very simple and effective way; on the other hand, thanks to the millions of data collected among all fans, we manage to accumulate essential data for scientific research and conservation projects. The importance of citizen science is more transparent than anywhere when we analyze the value of platforms like eBird."
The Itsasenara Association has a direct connection with the eBird tool "for a long time", he explained. Among others, the majority of those responsible for the eBird project in the Basque Country are members of the Itsasenara association and all historical data of the association are being uploaded to the platform (collected in newsletters and 30-year censuses): in total we have already uploaded more than 4,000 observation lists to the eBird database.
