According to a press conference on 5 February, the premature babies of 11 families with children of two and three years old in Mendigorría were "in a limbo". At the end of the preterm period and after enrolling in the educational programme, it is not yet known whether they have been approved or not. "No one has ever contacted us," the same sources said.
Last week a parliamentary question was asked about the situation, and families were not satisfied with the answer of the Navarre Executive. "Mr. Carlos Gimeno's response does not calm us, nor does it convince us, but quite the opposite."
Faced with this situation, they have come to the Ararteko this week, which has made known that they have served and channelled the petition of the eleven families affected. "In recent years, a very high percentage of Mendigorría's students are enrolled in model D. In the case of the municipal children's school aged 0-3 years, this percentage is around 75% and chooses to teach in Basque. This means, in particular, the viability of the line that is demanded in the public centre," the letter says. The alternative that has been given to them to this day is the public school of Puente la Reina.
At the same time, they asked for a meeting with the President of Navarra, María Txibite, at the Conference Palace. "We encourage President Txibite to meet with us to get to know our situation firsthand and together to get the most logical and just solution, as it can be but to open the line of model D in Mendigorria," they said.
The Navarra Federation of Municipalities and Councils was born with the objective of "protecting and promoting their shared interests and local autonomy". A Communication Officer will soon be selected who will have to master Spanish and Basque.
