The Asviasmie Aiaraldea association has reported that a former United Tubes worker died on 20 May as a result of lung cancer caused by asbestos. The asbestos group has reported that more than four workers have died in the company by inhaling the fibres of this mineral. “The company’s management always tries to reach agreements with the victims’ relatives to prevent these cases from coming to light,” said Juanjo Basterra on social networks.
According to the member of Asviasmi, in Hego Euskal Herria 24 people have died from asbestos, “at least 2,424 have died since 1993.”
This is not the first such death this year in Aiaraldea. A former Tubacex worker died in July. A year ago, José Luis Landeta Ramos, a worker in Laguardia, died of asbestos:
